St. Petersburg International Cup (30.04-01.05)

Another show that was held over the past weekend (April 30th-May 1st) was the St. Petersburg International Cup (C). The classes were small, to say the least: for example the 9 year old and above stallions class had one contestant, whereas the yearling colts and 9 year old and above mares just two each. The Russian show was graced by a large representation of State Stud horses: BALLENA (Kahil Al Shaqab - Belgica/Gazal Al Shaqab), bred and owned by Janów Podlaski, won the 3 year old fillies class with a rather low score of 88,9, which translated to a silver medal in the junior mares category. The Białka bred and owned MILIAN (Lawrence El Gazal - Mila/Ararat) placed second in the two year old colts class (89,2) and later went on to claim the bronze in the junior stallions category.

The senior mare medals were divided between Janów Podlaski: the gold went to ETIRA (Eden C - Etnologia/Gazal Al Shaqab), winner of the 4-5 year old mares class (90,7), the silver was awarded to ESPARTA (Poganin - Epoka/Pilot), winner of the 6-8 year old mares class (90,9, including a "20" for type), whereas the bronze was secured by BERNADETTA (Ganges - Belgica/Gazal Al Shaqab), second in class (89,6) behind Esparta. The only contestant of the 9 year old and above stallions class, Janów's ALMANZOR (El Nabila B - Alantina/Emigrant), received 91 pts (including two "20s" for movement) and the senior stallion bronze medal. His Białka stablemate, CEFIR (Eryks - Celina/Metropolis NA) won the 4-5 year old stallions class claiming 91,2 pts (including three "20s" for movement) and placed fourth in the finals.

Apart from horses representing Polish colours there were also those previously exported: EL MEGANA (Ganges - Ellanda/Wojsław), bred by Michałów and owned by M. Timin (Russia), placed third in the 4-5 year old mares class and GIRLAN BEY (Pesal - Gracja-Bis/Monogramm), bred by M. Bogajewicz, owned by Reza Alhadadi (Iran), who won the 9 year old and above stallions class with the show's highest score (92,9 pts, including four "20s" for movement) and ultimately the senior stallion gold medal.

Tulip Cup (30.04-01.05)

The B-ranked Tulip Cup was held on the days of April 30th-May 1st in Ermelo (Netherlands) and as usual it could not do without Polish accents. The Janów-bred ALABAMA (Gazal Al Shaqab - Altona/Eukaliptus), currently owned by Al Thumama Stud (Qatar), won in the 10 year old and above mares class, receiving top marks for movement from all the judges and a final score of 91,44. The mare qualified for the finals, securing fourth place. Another Janów Podlaski graduate, the stallion ESFAHAN (Ekstern - El Fatha/Entyk), owned by Flaxman Arabians (Belgium), placed fourth in the 4-6 year old stallions class, also acquiring a full set of 20s for movement and a final score of 90,33.

It is also worth mentioning two Belgian-bred horses, both out of Polish dams: PARIS J (Emerald J - Palabra/Enzo), bred and owned by Christine Jamar, who won the 3 year old fillies class (91,38) and secured the bronze medal in the junior mares category; and PROFENDER K.A. (QR Marc - Palanga/Ekstern), bred by Knocke Arabians and owned by Florentina Arabians, who qualified for the finals from second place in the 4-6 year old stallions class (91.08) and just missed the bronze medal by placing fourth.

Irina Filsinger has passed away

Irina Filsinger, a well-known Arabian horse photographer, has passed away after a long illness. Irina grew up among horses. Her father, Erwin Filsinger, was a vet and one of the first private Arabian horse breeders in Germany. Ultimately the family breeding was continued by her brother, while Irina herself decided to stand behind the camera. Her works, signed with a characteristic "Fil" logo, appeared in all leading publications. Irina was especially valued by breeders from the Middle East, where she often travelled, immortalizing the desert studs and their best specimen. For many years she was one of two official photographers of the Polish National Arabian Horse Show and the Pride of Poland Sale.

On April 9-10th, 2016 the 20th PAHBA Annual Meeting took place in Janów Podlaski. The seminar part and Janów’s foal inspection have already been covered. Below is a coverage of the meeting together with  a summary of the official parts of the event.

Published separately is the resolution taken by the Annual Meeting:

- the coverage of the 20th PAHBA Annual Meeting

- the resolution of the PAHBA Annual Meeting:

The Annual Meeting expresses their deep concern regarding the changes in the State Treasury companies, supervised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Agricultural Property Agency, detrimental to the foundations of Polish Arabian horse breeding. We firmly object to the way these changes are made, using insinuations and false information, causing direct damage to the image and international position of Polish Arabian horse breeding.
